Why free expression still matters ---

I am on the mailing list of Europa Editions, since they are a great independent publisher of works in translation, run by the couple behind Italy's Edizioni e/o publishing house.

Today's mailing covers the story of one of their titles, The Proof of the Honey by Salwa Al Neimi.

Apparently, the cover is a bit too racy for Apple, who  pulled it from its online shelves. The content of the book focuses on the subject of sex in modern Arabic society, and in Arabic literature. While it has been favorably reviewed as a literary work, it has been banned in Al Neimi's native Syria. To make your own decision, you can see the cover in Searchworks, and check the book out from the library.
