World Cup titles

Although neither France nor Italy is having a particularly memorable positive experience in the World Cup, some new books about French football have recently arrived in the library that may make for good summer reading:

Dubois, Laurent. Soccer Empire: The World Cup and the Future of France. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2010.  (just arrived, should be in the HAS New Books section by late next week!)

I have also ordered this catalog to an exhibit currently underway at the Cité nationale de l'histoire de l'immigration in Paris. It should arrive in the next few weeks.

Nothing new has come in recently on Italian football, but here are some books on the subject that are in the library:

Selvaggio, Mario. Glossaire Français-italien Du Football. Fasano (Br) [i.e. Brindisi, Italy]: Schena, 2007.

Foot, John. Calcio : a History of Italian Football. London: Fourth Estate, 2006.

Catania, Enzo, and Mario Celi. Tutto Il Marcio Minuto Per Minuto : Il Romanzo Nero Del Calcio Italiano Dal 1896 a Oggi. 1. ed. Casale Monferrato (AL) [i.e. Alessandria, Italy]: Piemme, 2007.
