What's new in Colonial Violence ?

Knowing all the interest in violence around here, I bring your attention to the new issue of the journal Historical Reflections/Reflexions historiques, Volume 36, Number 2, Summer 2010. Colonial Violence. Edited by Samuel Kalman.

Torture in French Central Africa, public executions in French Indochina, policing soldiers in Africa and African immigrants in France, there is lots to digest.

Early French colonialism

A new bibliography of articles on French colonialism until 1815 just arrived - arranged by author, but with a subject index. For those of you working on the French overseas, this looks to be an important resource. It will be shelved in the Lane Room.
